Actor/director/producer Harry Potter actor Benedict Cumberbatch and actor Michael Caine have been nominated for best actor in a film at this year’s Academy Awards, and while the nominations were announced Friday morning, Cumberbatch’s fellow nominees were left with no clear winner.

“We’re so happy to have had such an amazing season and so many amazing performances from all of our actors, we are so proud of them,” said Amy Pascal, the Academy president.

“It is very important for us to recognize the work of all of the amazing people in the world, and to recognize our fans who have given us so much support this year.”

Actress Marion Cotillard, who has won the best actress Oscar, and actress Emma Watson, who won best supporting actress, were also nominated for their work in the drama The Imitation Game, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday.

“I am very proud of all the amazing women, including Marion and Emma, who have played a significant role in our film, and I thank them so much for all their incredible work,” said director James Ponsoldt.

“They are extraordinary people and we thank them for their dedication to the project.”

The Oscar nominations were presented in a ceremony in Los Angeles.
