An Australian actor has won the prestigious Grand Jury Prize for best original screenplay for a film.
John Sossard’s “A Night in the Valley” won the grand jury prize at the New York Film Festival.
The film follows a group of young Australians who travel to the southern Indian state of Madhya Pradesh to seek asylum in the United States.
The Australian has been nominated for the Grand Jury prize for his “A Dark and Stormy Night” and for best screenplay.
It was nominated for four other categories including best cinematography, best writing, best original score, best cinematographer, best sound editing and best cinemascope.
Sossard said the award was a personal honour for him and his wife, but also a chance to share his passion for filmmaking.
“We have a good understanding of each other’s work and we both have the same vision of the future of film,” he said.
“It’s a privilege to be nominated for this award by the same people who have been supporting me on my journey.”
A Night In The Valley follows the story of a group that sets off on a dangerous trek across the Himalayas in search of shelter and protection.
